Corporate team building · US

A location-led site that finally earned its clicks. 330% more monthly clicks.

I took on SEO for a US corporate team-building company in June 2025. The site ranked for plenty of searches, but mostly on page two, and clicks slid through the autumn. I reorganised the site around locations and tightened the links between city pages and their regional hubs. By August 2026 monthly Google clicks were 330% above June 2025, and summer clicks were up 440% on the summer before.

Starting point

Ranking widely, clicked rarely

When I picked the account up in June 2025, the site had a modest base of a few hundred clicks a month and most of its rankings sat beyond the first page. By October 2025, average position was about 19 - deep into page two, where few people scroll.

Clicks then drifted lower through the autumn, bottoming out below 170 in December. The client's goal was clear and local from day one: win map-pack and top-three positions in its home region first, then repeat that in a second region. That decided where I began.

What I did

Making location the spine of the site

The client sells a menu of group activities, but planners search by place first. So I treated cities and regions as the main axis and activities as the second one, and agreed a few house rules with the client before changing any page.

  1. 01

Pin down the goal and the buyer

At onboarding I mapped who actually books: hotels, destination management companies, meeting planners and executive assistants. I agreed one measurable aim with the client - map-pack and top-three visibility across its core locations - and built reporting around clicks per page, because that was the measure the client cared about most.

  2. 02

    Hubs above city pages

Every city page links up to its regional hub, and every hub links back down to its cities. That gives search engines a clear picture of where the business operates, and gives a planner who lands on one city an obvious route to the nearest alternatives.

  3. 03

    Cannibalisation fixes only with evidence

I didn't merge or retarget pages on a hunch. Two pages had to share at least half of their Search Console queries before I treated them as competing. That stopped me flattening pages that looked alike on the surface but were answering different searches.

  4. 04

    Links that read like sentences

Anchor text had to read naturally, with quote-request wording kept for the page that converts. Thin pages got one or two internal links at most and were flagged back to the client, rather than propped up with links they hadn't earned yet.

The result

Page one first, then the top three

August 2026 brought 330% more clicks than June 2025, after a July high of about 1,800. Season for season, the 2026 summer produced 440% more clicks than the 2025 one.

The keyword picture moved most at the top. Setting the opening quarter of the work beside the latest one, page-one keywords rose about 210% to around 3,400, and top-three positions rose more than 100% to about 1,400. Impressions grew 240% from October 2025, and average position improved from about 19 to 13 over that stretch.
